MESSAGE FROM THE NATIONAL PROJECT COORDINATOR

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) is pleased to present to the lecturers and students at all Polytechnics and technical and vocational education institutions in Nigeria and the public in general the first set of Instructional materials (e-Books) for 6 disciplines. The Instructional Materials are for programmes at National Diploma level covering Business Administration, Accountancy, Office Technology Management, Statistics, Leisure and Tourism Management Technology, and Hospitality Management. NBTE is endeavoring to continue the efforts to produce further instructional materials for those disciplines at Higher National Diploma level as well as for other disciplines.

The instructional materials contained are the result of efforts by our Polytechnic lecturers who worked diligently during 2008 to produce the material that was finalized at major workshops organized by NBTE in cooperation with UNESCO under the UNESCO-Nigeria TVET Project-Phase II. The workshops had over 150 participants/lecturers in all the relevant fields of study with eight UNESCO international consultants in attendance. All the Instructional Materials are based on the updated Nigeria curricula which are competency-based with emphasis on Information and Communication Technology, ICT, Entrepreneurship and hands-on practical content. We acknowledged the numerous contributions of all those involved, especially UNESCO consultants, in the development of these Materials and E-books.

This is no doubt a major achievement in our determination to update and improve the content and delivery of all our TVE programmes. It is also another major landmark of the second phase of the UNESCO-Nigeria TVE project. We also intend to make available to the lecturers, students and the general public all the instructional material and curricula on our website so as to facilitate easy access and sharing and provide for a feedback mechanism. We hope that such feedback will help subsequently to improve their contents on a continuous basis.

It is our sincere hope that the materials would provide the needed guidance and environment for the effective delivery of the subjects concerned.
